Common Ground Studio is a design company. Multi-disciplinary in the area of the built environment, we bring the highest quality design to urban design, planning, architecture, landscape and engineering. Professionally our aim is to create much more environmental and market value at a lower cost. Personally, our aim is to create the sorts of ideal places and communities in which people prosper, are safe, and can be fully content. Heavens on earth.

STRATEGY

Refine the end-goal and never lose sight of it. Our broad and alternative skill base allows us to shape robust, innovative and achievable strategies that inspire communities and get you to where you need to be.

DESIGN

We don’t even bother with the box we’re supposed to be outside of. We just design to be as true as we can to you, to the community and to the environment. Often what we do seems innovative and risky, but we always get there quicker, better, and with everybody’s support.

Assessment

Every project starts from an in-depth assessment of landscape, ecology, social context, economics and planning. This is a process of inclusion repeated throughout the project that shortens and sharpens the later design cycles.

Research

Being able to design well comes from many sources – what you’re taught, what you observe, natural empathy…But it also comes from the extent you’re prepared to search out and validate what hasn’t been taught, what isn’t known, what you haven’t yet been able to see. So we do a lot of original research.
